This unique card delivery machine is to replace old, temporary ID or other types of card such as driver's licences, loyalty cards, credit cards etc. to a new personalized one and to cancel out and destroy the old card.
Principle function and use of the SCD 5000
This machine lends itself to applications where cards, for various reasons such as expiration dates, change of data etc, need to be changed. It can be national ID cards, credit cards, loyalty cards etc.
Rather than mailing the new card to the customer, which can cause the card to be stolen or disappear for other reasons, the customer gets a notification that he/she has a new card ready for pick up at a specified facility. The customer then has to show up at that place, walk up to the SCD 5000 and insert his/her old card.
The SCD 5000 will read the data on card, call up the database to find the new cards location between 1 to 5000 inside the SCD 5000. A mechanism will collect the card, read the card number to be sure correct card is found and when the right card is found the customer is asked to pay a fee if the system so call for.
After received amount the card will be dispensed to the customer and his / her old card will be maculated by a hole being punched thru the chip and fed into an inside waste basket.
To further secure that it is the correct person carrying the cards, the SCD 5000 can be equipped with a pin pad , finger print reader or camera.

The picture on the bottom is from the PACI smart card opening ceremony on June 29, 2009.
